Interaudio CVM100 128MB, 256MB MP3, WMA player with FM radio and voice recording
This little USB pen drive is also known as the ""Wigo"", but we have the Interaudio brand name. The player is identical in its specification, but the aesthetics are slightly different. Our model doesn't have the mirrored front of the Wigo, but we think this improves the design. Our model is pure silver and this gives off a classier, more mature look that its counterpart. As usual, we have tested the player with koss Porta Pro's headphones and tracks by U2. Over the past week, we have introduced 5 models to our range, and this includes the CVM100. The CVM100 is a direct competitor of the Muzio and the IOPS, so it has its work cut out if it's going to claim the ultimate USB pen drive crown. You could say the CVM100 is smarter looking than the Muzio, but not as beautiful as the IOPS, so it starts the challenge in 2nd place on the looks department. But what about the rest of the player, will it cut the mustard? Interaudio have ""shoe horned"" a massive amount of features in to this player, so specification wise, we know its one of the best. The Swivelled USB port hides, very cleverly, inside the players main housing. Pull apart the smaller section, swivel through 180degree and push back. To hide the USB plug, just reverse this action to get back to the clean, simple lines. Getting started was easy, like most USB pen drives on the market, the CVM100 appears instantly as an external drive. Drag and drop your files, folders or .M3U playlists and off you go. There are very few players to support M3U playlists so this is a definite bonus for the CVM100 and a worthy mention. The CVM100 supports MP3 (32-320Kbps) and WMA (64-192Kbps) files, but not Ogg vorbis, thus marking it down slightly when compared to the IOPS. Add the Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery, with 13 hours continuous playback, FM radio with station presets and recording, voice recording, direct encoding from any audio source, UMS (universal mass storage) for any file type storage, 7 colour LCD display and firmware upgrade ability to name a few, and its pretty much even-steven between the three new players. As with the Muzio and IOPS, you can change the Bitrate settings for all three recording options. Voice, FM radio and direct encoding recording, allows you to change from 8 - 224Kbps to give you optimum recording depending on your requirements. Include Sync and VAD options and you can't really go wrong. Still neck and neck…… The 7 colour LCD makes reading the display easy, depending on which colour you opt for. We personally can live with all colours, except for red and blue, both of these colours are a little too dark for the size of display used. Our favourite colour option is white. While your music is playing back, one quick click on the 5 way navigation joystick and you are able to change the majority of the settings without having to leave your music. Once you have made your changes, give the joystick another click and you are back to the music menu. Speaking of music, we should mention the sound quality which is nothing short of excellent. This is achievable by the many EQ settings at your disposal, settings that we haven't seen before - Flat, Classic, pop, rock, Live, Jazz, Reggae (yes reggae!), soft rock, Techno, party, dance, hall, soft and the ever useful user EQ setting. Have you ever seen so many EQ options? we haven't! Not forgetting 3D (off, low, mid and high), and the CVM100 is edging ahead of the Muzio, but not the IOPS. You can even change the playback speed, from normal, to fast or slow with 5 settings. The Slow setting is actually quite funny when heard for the first time, and should cause a few giggles. We think the FM radio is worth a mention, because it is one of the clearest FM radios we have heard. The player was tested in an area not known for its radio reception, but the CVM100 was able to pick up our local radio station and radio 1 with no problems and very clear sound.
Whatever kind of MP3 player you're looking for, whether you want the most sophisticated, an MP3 player jukebox with huge capacity, USB compatibility, the inclusion of FM radio, or simply something to suit a modest budget, we're bound to have the right MP3 player for you.
